Combining the power of art with the beauty of nature, the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art is a place to celebrate the American spirit. The museum was designed by world-renowned architect Moshe Safdie and is surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenes nature has to offer. Truly, the blend of this thoughtful architecture with the incredible beauty of the Ozarks makes this a destination worth driving to.

4 Reasons to Visit the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art

How It Got Its Name

Along the west side of the upper pond walkway, you’ll find a stone grotto made of large boulders that are covered quartz crystals. These beautiful formations of nature are abundant in Arkansas and are the namesake for the museum.

The grounds stretch across 120 acres of beautiful Ozark landscape and have over 4 miles of trails that wind throughout the site.  Considered a “must-see” experience, these trails were designed to inspire the imagination by connecting the land with its history as you enjoy beautiful works of art outdoors.

Collections That Span Centuries

With over 1,000 individual objects of art from 7 different collections, Crystal Bridges offers something for every art enthusiast. Whether you prefer watercolors from the 1700s or the more modern artistic expressions of the 20th century, you’ll find it here. Their collections are grouped by the following categories:

  • State of the Art 2014
  • Artist Self-Portraits
  • Outdoor Art
  • Recent Acquisitions
  • Labor and Industry Print Collection:1859-1989
  • Alfred Stieglitz Collection
  • Drawings and Watercolors: 18th Century and 19th Century

Frank Lloyd Wright House

No visit to the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art would be complete without a tour through the Bachman-Wilson House.  An example of Frank Lloyd Wright’s classic Usonian architecture, and originally built along the Millstone River in New Jersey in 1956, the museum acquired this structure in 2013.

It was taken apart, transferred, and then reconstructed at the museum in 2015, and represents the residential architecture Wright developed during the Great Depression for the average middle-class family, and it shows off a distinct mid-century modern design.

Unique Experiences & Traveling Exhibitions

Debuting with immense popularity and public enthusiasm, the North Forest Lights experience has returned for a second season at Crystal Bridges. This awe-inspiring light show has an extended season this year that opens September 1, 2020, and continues through April 4, 2021.

Additionally, temporary exhibitions and special art presentations are scheduled all throughout the year for guests to enjoy and often feature traveling pieces from other art institutions.

A visit to the museum is a great way to enjoy a lot of art in one place, but it’s not the only way. Why not drive your own personal piece of art? The new award-winning Telluride has a ground-breaking design sure to please even the toughest art critics.
