The Museum of Native American History (MONAH) – located in Bentonville, AK – houses over 10,000 Native American artifacts. Founded by David Bogle, a registered member of the Cherokee Nation, MONAH also features Bogle’s private collection and items donated or loaned to the museum for display. It is rich in Native American history, and with free admission and wheelchair accessibility, it’s a place for the whole family to enjoy.

Take a Free Self-Guided Tour of the Museum of Native American History

Learn about the lives of the First Americans by taking a free self-guided audio tour. Looking very much like a remote controller, this innovative device allows you to enjoy the museum at your own pace and spend more time at the exhibits that most interest you. These hand-held audio guides are available for both English and Spanish speakers.

Collections and Exhibits

The collections at MONAH span five time periods from 12,000 BC to 1900 AD and explore the development of culture, art, and people of the Americas. You can visit the Paleo, Archaic and Woodland exhibitions and Historic and Mississippians exhibits. You’ll learn all about First Americans, including learning about the pre-Columbian period with temples and pyramids created before the arrival of Columbus.

Arrowhead Hunting

Located around the tipi outside of the Museum of National History, hand-knapped arrowheads are hidden in the rocks. Visitors under the age of 15 get to keep one arrowhead for free. But if you’re over 15 and would like to take some home with you, they’re available to purchase from the museum’s gift shop.

Medicine Garden

The indigenous medicine garden at Monah has an array of trees, plants, and vegetables. From echinacea to maple trees, elderberries, kale, and lavender, you get to learn about the kinds of food consumed by the First Americans and the components of indigenous natural L.A.W (land, air, water). As of Spring 2021, MONAH is expanding the gardens into The Gardens of Indigenuity: A Living Exhibition.

Group Visits

Due to the current COVID restrictions, there is currently a limit of 30 visitors per hour allowed in the museum. You can book hourly timed tickets slots with tickets times available between 10 am and 4 pm. You can also schedule field trips to the museum for visitors 18 years and under.

Museum Shop

You can take Native American culture back home with you by visiting the museum shop. The shop has items ranging from art, books, collectibles, native-made jewelry and pottery, to seeds, sage, textiles, and toys. Through your purchase at the shop, you’re not only supporting the museum, but you’re also bringing some of the best of Native American culture to your own hometown.
As you can tell there are lots of things to see and learn at MONAH. After you enjoy your tour around the museum, come over to Crain Hyundai in Bentonville so that your next family trip can be enjoyed in one of our safe and stylish vehicles.
